Uhhhhh... ok? Which one can I have?

I do have dupes. But no dupes for you. In fact, people bring ME mugs. That's how I get dupes. Which one are you bringing me??

Someone is in a very interesting mood today and it's not me for a change.

Cool deal on the mugs. I suppose this means the space is officially reaching closure as the details are standing in line for their turn at bat.

Pictures, detailed pictures, please.
(smiling and winking and begging and thinking she will NOT release her prized Willard Hotel coffee mug to her dear friend, at least not right this now...)

OOOOOHHHHH! Is it a dupe? I am still searching for hints, JBelle.

So - which one is your favorite? Which one has the most unique story? Which one makes you smile the most?

The Starbucks Collection began when I was consulting in organizational development and doing a lot of traveling. I had a little boy at home and it was a fun way to show him where I'd been. My first international mug came from Tiffeny Milbrett who brought me Tokyo when she was playing in Japan. Google her. I was in Paris the weekend the first Starbucks opened there; it was pandemonium with lines stretching down the street and around the corner in the Opera Garnier neighborhood. I cherish that mug. Of course, I have some really cool London mugs, a bunch of 'em and I love those. Those make me smile. I love Cologne and Barcelona. I love the Los Angeles mugs, one with a big cadillac and the other with palm trees. Love the New York with a magnificent Statue of Liberty. Philadelphia makes me sad because the CFO of a client brought it to me; she'd take the train from New York to Philadelphia each night to be with her sister who was dying of cancer. When the time came to buy my own Philadelphia, I passed. One I had was too holy. I have triple Denver, all from people who have come and gone in my life. sigh. Dallas is a big cowboy boot.

For summer, they have launched a national park series. I really like those and have begun picking them up. Got Mount Rainier and put out the word to one of my people in the field that Central Park would be a prize get.

And so it goes. The mugs of Starbucks. Wonder what will happen to them eventually?

After looking at the picture I was going to ask you to tell us more...but I see you have. Cool.

This is good. I showed my wife this picture. My collection of 17 mugs suddenly doesn't seem like such a bother. Mind you, it's still in a box, but there's hope.

Hi Cheech!

Those people that make me laugh are always in line for a dupe. Starfucks indeed! By the way, that would be my office, Melsie. Looking down the hall towards Coeur d'Alene, of course.

hi Ford. :) I bet it's pretty in Fairbanks this morning....

Phil, Get those mugs out of the box! Get 'em up! They will inspire and delight you in moments of tedium and frustration. That's what having beautiful, interesting things around you is about. By the way, which ones do you have?

Carla, oh the saga of the mugs. I have one rogue mug. My biggest client came in one day with a smile from ear to ear. Got a Starbucks mug for the collection! says he. He proudly proffers an Skagway/Alaska mug that says on it, We serve Starbucks Coffee. Well, ya see, under typical conditions, I'd thank him profusely, keep it on my desk for a while, use it a few times and retire it to the archives either at mini-storage or the St. Vincent de Paul. But as I do hundreds of thousands of dollars with this guy, I got out the laddder in front of him and gave 'Skagway' a pole position in the collection. And when my glance falls on 'Skagway' every now and then, I remember: all of life is not an art form.

Uh.. I have a mug from the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, TX. How's that? It's a really cool museum...one that I suggest you visit, if you ever find yourself in that unfortunate part of the world (North Texas, that is.. Fort Worth is probably the only redeeming thing IN north Texas...skip Dallas, it's overrated and snotty...and also run by the mob...and you can't even get a descent coffee there. Fort Worth, though...it actually has a nice arts district and a good bit of class....wow...this is the longest parenthetical comment I've made in, like ever...too much coffee this morning I think...maybe I'll skip the triple shot Americano from Common Ground in future...by the way.. have you ever noticed that little drive through coffee places in Spokane have interesting and unique names? I have...I'd like to take pictures of them and make a coffee table book of drive through coffee places in the Inland Northwest...do you think it would sell? Ok... I'm about to close the parenthesis.. really.. I promise...right.. about.. here.).

Mamasita-I picked up a new mug for you on my travels this weekend, and it's not of the Mexican variety. Maybe I will hijack Bronx_Boy's blog and post a picture for you. =) I will see if I can actually mail it sometime before Christmas because I think you will really like it.

What a collection. If I am ever in your office, don't let me hold any mugs that are important. I am a spiller and breaker, always have been. In kindergarten I was on a first name basis with the janitor. All of my wedding crystal is broken. I actually broke them all at once. I dropped a mug on them. Broke that too. See, don't let me near them!

Phil said...

That's what having beautiful, interesting things around you is about.

You forget I have a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old, so those items quickly become beautiful, interesting, broken things.

mamaJD said...

What are the pictures on the wall of? They look like what I call drawarings made by little folks.

JBelle said...

Toadster! awesome comment. I think a coffee place book would be terrific. And yes, I do have a Fort Worth mug. Starbucks Ft Worth mug.

Mel, are you drooling?

Peeeeeedy! I want my present! I know it will be fabulous if it's you! The girl who gives her mother a Chanel handbag when she makes a big sale!

Suze, But you knoooow, when it's all broken, then it's all over and everybody can relax. No darn problem with breakables no more. :) And if you're ever in The 'Kan EWA, I would be thrilled to have you help me rearrange them. That's the really fun part of collections. The rearranging.

Phil, Point well taken. It was a long time before I changed our my coffee table and got the stuff I really wanted. And who wants to be on their case 24/7? Did you think you successfuly distracted me from wanting to know which mugs you have? You did not. cough. WHICH MUGS TO YOU HAVE?????

Mamaj, Eagle Eye. Brian Andreasson. Maybe I'll blog about it. Those line drawings are my biography. Nothing gets by you. ;)

I love the story of your mugs. I just need to catch up a little. Are all the mugs from Starbucks? How many do you actually have? What a excellent way to display them.

JBelle said...

hi there Gardener Girl, Are you in McCall yet? next year can I come? :)

The mugs are all Starbucks. They are only available in the city of the mug. You can't get Sacramento in San Francisco. I got them one of two ways: by purchasing them myself when on the road; from friends and associates who were on the road. I have over 200 now including Dubai, several sites in China and Olympia, Washington. The shelf is a piece of crown moulding mounted about 12 inches from the ceiling. This week I have wondered several times just what my children are going to do with these dumb things when the time comes. sigh.

InlandEmpireGirl said...

Yes, I am in McCall. I will let you know about next year... I am sure we will hold it again.
It sounds like many of your friends here would love those mugs! I wish Riggins had a Starbucks... then I could send you one!

The Fool said...

Hmmm. Do you think there is a McKinley Park mug out there in the new series? I'm not sure if Starbucks has invaded down there yet. Fairbanks may be the closest offering. Next time I pass by the local shop I'll have to inquire.

And yes on the weather...it's going to be a beautiful solstice...
