The Chow Nation tells me that the inboxes are lit up with questions regarding the Lion Cuts. They say clarification is needed, especially since that whole thing with Paris Hilton. Whatever that means. One final thing from them: despite their new found wild celebrity, they have not newly found Jesus but remain practicing Catholics and relish and delight in the body and blood of Our Lord weekly. Those darn Chows.

It looks like you have a lion on a leash drinking. It also looks like you had a marvelous time. I am going to have to make this new macaroni. Maybe I will get a Dutch Oven for my birthday. I grew up cooking in cast iron.

One of these days I will get to the Washington coastline. I can hear it calling from here. I know it will be alot different than the warm waters of the Gulf Coast that I am used to, but I think I would greatly enjoy the change.

Suze, The Washington Coast is so different--even from Oregon. For me, a highly spiritual experience with the eagles and ospreys and even the crows with whom the Native Americans here had quite a relationship.

We do that to one of our cats each summer.

I think those Chows could be starting a trend. You just wait...I predict those cuts will be taking the country by storm before the summer is up.

Hi Cheech. One of my first jobs (after paper routes and tobacco and farm work) was working in a vet clinic (1975). Folks used to come in and request this cut...and we had quite a bit of fun obliging. I knew exactly where you were coming from...

I love their new looks. They must have been a spectacular site taking a walk along the ocean. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I love the lion cut. But I wonder if shaving the body hair doesn't open them to sunburn. People don't think of animasl becoming sunburned...but they do. But I think your Chows look spectacular!

Phil, Kitty who comes around here to be fed gets a lion cut each summer. Why do you do it to a cat? And by the way, I cannot believe how much cleaner our patio is. Just how do you get a cat to stay still to buzz them?

Carla, Those Chows are way trendy Chows. And if they don't get the gigs they want, they change out their agents. I dunnooooo.....

Ford, When Do' went to the vet for the matter that triggered the lion cut, the vet said, hey all the heavy lifting is done. Gave her a little antibiotic and sent her back home. I didn't know vets got involved in grooming. :)

Melsie, Do your neighbor Chows have really black tongues?

GG, The Chows were Rock Stars on the beach. :) Somehow, their black tongues stand out when their hair is cut, too.

Wondering, Absolutely, they get sun burned. I was rubbing Healthy Hoof on them when they got to the beach because they got sunburned here on the first day of their cut. But they don't seem to mind the sunburn and I ended up washing them because of course, the HH atracted all manner of dirt and sand which stuck to them mercilessly. They get sunburned but it's not such a big deal.

JBelle - I just love Chow Nation. They always look happy. We have two border collies and one papillon but they are all color cordinated in black and white. I don't know that our dogs would look as majestic in a lion cut as the Chow Nation. And for the record, I cannot for the life of me figure out how Paris Hilton figures into this. Hairless at times, perhaps, but lion cut?

You know, I would bet that one of the greaseless sunblocks made for children would work without anything sticking to it.
