omigosh! where to start. Becks and Posh moving to LA?!

Thank God. THANK GOD. We will now have a man unafraid to exhibit style, grace and discretion in this country. I am so overtaken by the development that I am going to forsake my initializing Cereal Box Series entry until tomorrow and default into my post for today with a picture of la vita dolce. Enjoy.

I don't think LA is ready for Posh Spice.

Who are Becks and Posh?

Good point Green. It does need some clarification, because I could be thinking of someone totally different than JBelle in this instance.

However, I think she's talking about some soccer player who's last name is Beck (I thought she meant the singer at first), and Posh Spice, of The Spice Girls...those Brit girls who waggle their personalities about and attempt to sing.

nononononono. I can't believe my mother lets you two post here. This is shameful. The ubiquitous player is David Beckham...shortened to Becks, as is the English custom; married to Victoria "Posh Spice" Adams. The were married in such a lavish ceremony, it really was like Royalty tying the knot--their home in England has been dubbed none other than "Beckingham Palace."
I was so excited about this, I was wondering how I could justify buying season tickets to a team that is based in Los Angeles whose closest geographical competition to me is in Utah. Nuts. Guess it's new Galaxy jerseys for the family instead.

You know, Thom, on Flickr, they are pretty clear on giving photographic credit. What do you think the penalty might be for printing other people's pictures and not making attribution?

Man and Lent's right around the corner.

Here's my hope, my deepest, dearest hope: David Beckham so attracts the attention of US women with his style and grace that it takes the pressure of us hooded sweater shirt (NIC, Gonzaga, Whitworth,Oregon), worn blue jeans white socks and bad shoes
wearers. Women can look at him, ignore us, and we can slob happily along. YES!! Long live Bill Belichick! Known in these parts as bbelle!

I'm just surprised this sort of thing is enough to stop you mid-tracks. But, hey, what do I know?

Stop me mid tracks?!

PT, Here at Bellemaison, we've been praying for this for a long time. A very long time. That and a chance at a beer with BBelle.

8) Sigh even deeper as you read how David Beckham will be paid $250 million to play soccer for the L.A. Galaxy for five years, which translates into about $2.5 million per game that no one will actually watch and which is the equivalent of what Mel Gibson made in about a week of sales of little pewter nail necklaces from the "Passion of the Christ" swag store and which is also equivalent to what Tom Cruise has paid out (I'm just guessing) to the Church of Scientology lo these past many years so he may become OT-8 (Operating Thetan Level 8), which means he knows the "secret" of the "great battle" in which alien overlord Xenu enslaved the human race 75 million of years ago by using H-bombs and volcanoes and blah blah whatever.

Actually Green, he'll only be paid approximately $35-40 million over 5 years to PLAY soccer--the rest is made up of endorsement contracts and gate and jersey percentages. And even more technically, MLS is only on the hook for $400,000 per year; Anschutz Entertainment (who owns The Home Depot Center, the Staples Center, The LA Kings, a percentage of the LA Lakers and several other MLS teams) will pay the rest of that $8-9 million a year salary. Adidas, other brands Beckham will pitch for, and percentages of ticket and jersey sales will make up the remaining $40 or so million per year.

Hmmmm, somehow I already knew that pro sports was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marketing, Inc.
