My friend Julie writes that her cousin participated in a barn raising out and about Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, the site of the heinous school house shooting last week. A 100-year old barn that her cousin played in as a child caught some sparks from backyard burn and burnt to the ground. She sends fascinating pictures from her cousin's personal photo book that are well worth a look. She tells me that the only English (I read that as non-Amish) present are her cousin and his dad. The Amish are people that I admire deeply because they just live their life. They don't evangelize, they don't lecture, they don't judge. And they walk their talk. I pray for their healing and for the souls of their lost children. May they rest in peace.

heeeey, You inspired me, Marms, and I went down to our local Farmers' Market and got some wonderful stuff, produce as it were. This week they had beets, too. And they were just gorgeous. muddy with greens that you could put in a vase.

Wendo, go to Lancaster County. I am so jealous! Scout a place we can rendezvous for a Ontological meets The 'Kan retreat. And...you should go to Longwood Gardens. I'll tell you more tomorrow. sigh. you so lucky.

Toad: :) good morning. I love the Amish. I could live their life in a heartbeat. I love seeing their wash on the line at 7 am!

JBelle, I've been dying to ask you a question for a while now...don't know how to bring it up, so I'll just come out with it..

What do you do for a living that get's you flitting from one country to another so often? I wanna know. Please let me know? If you don't, I'll cry big sobby tears of greif and dissapointment like the weak little teddy bear that I am.

Toad, When I see you I'll tell you all about my job, if you like. But I guarantee you, you'll be bored. I'm still at work. sigh.

Having said that, I will admit to having uncommon luck in business. Fact is, I don't know if there's anybody luckier than me!

And Marms, when you are ready to go to the Amish girl, LET ME KNOW! I'M THERE!

The Amish are a wonderful people. We have Mennonites around here, and they are similar, living off the land, in a completely sustainable way. Along with the Quakers, these sects are known as the Peace "churches", (only the Quakers don't generally use the term "church". I have gone to Mennonite church services a couple of times, as there are no Liberal Quaker meetings within a 1.5 hour drive. It's different, but the people there are very similar. They are intense, yet simple, it's really quite the contrast. None of these sects evangelize (recruit), which is why they are steady-state or dying out.

Glad you like your fresh veggies box, Mel, and good on you Jbelle for supporting the farmers market, where my friend from Tolstoy farms is usually there, and whom, damn, I haven't stopped by to see him there lately.

Real tears. Really. They're flowing like little diamonds down my face.

So, when will the mysterious jb3ll3 ever make an appearance somewhere I am?

The last time, she was too afraid to come and have a seat, but sent a pitcher and went away unseen.

Hey Green, I've been to that market too and seen the Tolstoy farm dudes. We got some good stuff from them.

I am closer, so much closer than you can imagine....

It's not your imagination that I am hot.
